As your candidate for Portland City Council in District 4, one of my top priorities is fostering meaningful community engagement.
I believe that effective governance starts with listening to the people it serves. Too often, residents feel disconnected from decision-making processes, and it's time we change that. My commitment is to ensure that every voice in our district is heard and valued in shaping the future of our city.
My approach to community engagement is rooted in accessibility, transparency, and partnership. I will conduct regular, open forums where residents can share their concerns, ideas and feedback directly with me and other city officials. I envision these as welcoming spaces where all community members, regardless of background or experience, feel empowered to participate in the conversation about Portland’s future. By holding town halls, listening sessions, and neighborhood meetings, I aim to bring City Hall closer to the people.
In addition to face-to-face interactions, I will leverage digital platforms to expand our reach and ensure even broader participation. This includes improving the city’s online presence with tools that make it easier for residents to access information, provide input, and track the progress of city projects. I’m committed to making sure our engagement efforts are inclusive, utilizing multilingual outreach and accessible formats to ensure that everyone in District 4, including our most vulnerable populations, can have their say.
Community engagement is not just about collecting feedback; it's about building lasting relationships and trust between the city and its residents. I will champion initiatives that empower neighborhood associations, local groups, and individual residents to play an active role in decision-making. By providing resources and support, we can help these organizations flourish and become strong advocates for their communities.
One of my key proposals is to establish a District 4 Community Advisory Board. This board will consist of representatives from each neighborhood in the district, including diverse voices from different demographic and economic backgrounds. The board will serve as a direct line of communication between the community and the council, ensuring that our decisions reflect the needs and aspirations of all residents.
When elected, I will also prioritize transparency in all aspects of city governance. This includes making budget processes more open and understandable, providing clear updates on city projects, and being accountable for the decisions we make. My goal is to foster a culture of openness and responsiveness, where community input is not just welcomed but actively sought and valued.
I am dedicated to ensuring that every resident of District 4 feels connected to their local government and confident that their voice matters. Community engagement is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy, and together, we can build a Portland that truly reflects the will and diversity of its people.
Let’s work together to make District 4 a model of active, inclusive, and meaningful community participation.
